In the film writing, use of 3D became necessary for many artistic reasons.
As a simple watcher, the audience goes first encounter most strange people, before being surprise when they'll meet them on the edge of the screen. At this tilting moment, the represented space become for the viewer his own mind space, that place where dreams born. Deep throughout this funny nightmare, the audience may participate to this world in progress, and ask themself about their charge in it.

An other way in that film to understand use of 3D is strangely the screenplay. Here there is no linear story telling wich leading the audience, but the audience is writing it himself. By his own picture reading of the screening space, the viewer will follow the points of views and differents characters and he will unconsciously build the little world Outsiplou. His journey is both geographic and introspective.
The everpresent myst throughout the film acts as a moving juncture between the audience reality and their own fiction. The 3D technology brings a new texture to the fog, which made flat and confined pictures in 2 Dimensions. Here the Mist is the better way to make real the world of dreams, and its infinite horizons always under construction.

Outsiplou is originally a belgian expression reminiscent of the french Petahouchnok, a kind of both nowhere and everywhere. that term refers to an imaginative elsewhere which may be a mirror image of our world. Outsiplou means "listen to the rain" because people were look at the sky every time, in the hope of the water, which bring the possibility of survival. It's a metaphor of our characters situation.

With that picture, Outsiplou become a city, a name, an exclamation, a laughing... Actually, it refers to us. Now, that term will be a walk, a dreamlike stroll through the world. This is a new way to see reality with the eyes of imagination.
